I am talking about sadism, stories that want let you sleep at night. Situations that made your pc's And your blood run cold. As a player or a dm.... For me is an ongoing campaign with a mortality rate to same "call of cthoulou". The story i asked for help with is just a part of it. The whole thing goes like this : At the creation of the Empire the gods walked amongst people with limited powers and human form. They gave civilization to the people and then their evil brother comes and kicks their butt. Unable to protect the humans they prepare to attack him personally when a human appears who claims he can defeat their brother. After taking seven chosen warriors ( one for each god ) he manages to banish the evil one to hell. What the stories omitt is a human who swore to serve the gods but who was in love with the woman that the devine emperor ( one of the gods ) had taken as his wife. The guy, caring the gods blessings and gifts (artifacts), goes forth to fight the evil one, not to defend the empire and its people as he should but to impress and protect the woman he desperately loved. The result, as can be expected, was to be defeated. The Evil one promised him that if he helped him destroy his brother -the emperor and husband of the woman- he could have her. Agreeing he returns and in a treacherous act he attacks the Emperor, slays his guards (which he was their commander and trainer ) and attacks. The gods's chosen champions -the seven thunders- had just assembled and being on the scene attack him. He has the gods blessings and survives an attack from the empire's greatest heroes but the empress, the woman he loved above all else, who had been raised with him and saw him as her only companion ; a trustworthy companion amongst gods, tried to save him. She was cut down by the thunders before his eyes. Swearing revenge he escapes and ambushes them on the road to their Quarries lair aka the Dark Lord. They manage to dodge his attacks but he then takes command of the demon armies and lays siege to the Capital killing all in his path. The Thunders manage to banish the Evil One to hell and he is taken prisoner by the gods. He is physically thrown into hell's portal but before that he confesses to the gods the final moments and endings of the thunders ( all of them were children, lovers or companions of the gods ). Leaving him trapped they neglect to seal the gate and he escapes. He tracks down 2 of three surviving thunders and he throws them into the abyss. After some very terrible acts on his behalf the last of the gods remaining in the empire banishes him to hell and hides the gifts the gods had given to the villain, in different places in the empire. The story for the players begins after almost 1000 years, when he begins to make small manifestations of himself, in an attempt to free himself and his Evil God, thus exacting his revenge. What is most horrific in this story is that as it progresses, the pc's begin to realize that they are chosen to find and destroy him before the descendants of the original seven thunders engage in combat with the returned Dark Lord. Why ? Because he was wronged. The woman he loved was unjustly killed and that means that although the thunders destiny to fight the Lord of all evil, protects them from death except by the hand of the evil one, he HAS the Right to seek Justice Before that combat takes place thus killing them and sealing mankind's fate....

Horrifically twisted, right ?

The players meet all opposition in their quest because those relics they seek are sacred to the empire, since they were given out by divinity. The evil one's agents seek them and no sane person would believe why they are trying to protect them from. It is like knowing when the anticrist is coming, who he is, what he is doing and no one believes you....

Enjoy. Fu Fu for Emperor...

Well, I have to admit I don't normally play in anything that could be considered horrific other than Call of Cthulhu. And most of the time that's played for the B-movie style of horror rather than anything truly twisted.

The most twisted adventure I've ever run was a Call of Cthulhu adventure. Unfortunately, even a summary isn't suitable for a family oriented forum like this one!
