"A 2-year-old boy who died with a fractured skull might have been accidentally crushed by a morbidly obese relative, authorities say."

yes that episode gets criticized by people in the overweight community because it's one of the only tv episodes that features heavy people and it does so in a very poor light.

I'm like you in that I can't figure out why a 2 yr old would be left with a bed-ridden relative.

2 yr olds are active! You can't just leave them alone and give instruction from the side.

I doubt this is going to be the end of this case... frown

That was my thought, Michelle. They're making a big deal about the person being obese but really it doesn't matter WHY they were in the bed. I don't think someone stuck in a bed should be caring for a toddler who is roaming all over the house.

I mean - we're only guessing here - but if the person was bedridden, then they would be staying in the bed, and there would be no chance of the toddler being hurt. So what if the reason the person was out of bed is that the toddler WAS hurt or in a problem situation? So now the poor bedridden person has to try their best to get out of bed since they are the only person who can help - and they slip. That could happen with any person of any size who is bedridden. Two year olds are very small.

Well you have to wonder if the story would have gotten NEARLY as much publicity as it did if it was simply "elderly person accidentally falls and kills child" ...

yep! I agree! if someone is bedridden then they either can not or should not get out of bed for any reason why would any parent leave a child of 2 with someone who cant get out of bed? this is stupid! they should be charged with child indangerment! if it was a elderly woman of 100 years old that was bedridden and she got up to care for the child they would have gotten the parents or whoever left the child with her for indangerment to a child as well as elderly abuse for leaving the elderly woman by herself!
Just goes to show you how far the decremination goes!!!

Right there is that whole angle too!! This person is bedridden for a reason. It is NOT SAFE for them to get out of bed, for THEIR health. So why would anybody tell this bedridden person they are responsible for an active 2 year old child? That is cruel in a way!
