When you're working to eat a healthy diet, it can be difficult enough to resist your own internal temptations. How do you handle a friend or relative who actively pushes you to eat unhealthy foods?

Handling an Unsupportive Person

Do you have people in your life like this?

Lisa, you hit the nail right on the head. Some one who's a real friend will do anything to help you. Now..how about the fairly new locarber who weakens. They send the wrong message to the world. That's me. I caved in and I'm having a tough time getting back. Right now I'm the most unsupportive person I know.

What I hate is when someone realizes you're trying to eat low carb and they start offering you tons of fatty steaks OR they start talking about how unhealthy low carb is when they really do not know what it is.

Granny - weakness is fine! We all have ups and downs. That's fine! Don't beat yourself up over that. Life is a journey. You trip, you keep going, you focus on today. We support you!

What are your plans for tomorrow?

Stephanie - I admit I used to be rabidly anti low carb because I believed what all the media people were saying about it being a death sentence. So I try to be tolerant with anti low carb people, because I was once one of them smile I try to gently explain to them what it is really about.

Lisa, I've already got locarb foods ready to go for tomorrow. The worst part is..my pains have come back. You'd think that being pain free would be enough to keep me on track. My left leg is hurting so bad from sciatica that I can hardly move. I've actually missed salads, imagine that. I'll have one tomorrow for sure. Not sure what all will be in it yet..but I'll have it.

Wow that is amazing that your body reacts so quickly to your eating style! That definitely does sound like powerful incentive to eat healthy foods.

Let us know what salad you eat! I am out of salad greens - we need to go shopping!

Hi Granny,

I feel your pain. This spring seems to be very hard on those of us who have neurological/orthopedic mizries. I hope you have a good doctor and plenty of insurance. There is no call to be in pain in this day and age.

Here's a virtual heating pad for your hip. Would you like a cup of tea? I used to get good relief in a hot tub. Floating a bit seems to rest the nerves. I found that even after the first 10 or 20 pounds, I had much less pain. When you get losing, the relief will indeed inspire you to stay on your program.

Good luck,

I definitely agree that the more weight you lose, the more pain-free your body seems to get. So over time you should have fewer and fewer problems with joints and aches.

My salad tonight is salad greens, onion, cucumber, pine nuts, grated swiss cheese, hard cooked egg (out of olives...darn!) bacon crumbles, with blue cheese dressing.

Lisa, I've never lost a lot of weight on locarb, but I do lose the pain, just as fast as I get it back. By Monday I should be pain free again...
