Good morning/afternoon wherever you may be!
What's cooking this weekend guys? I'm not sure what's for dinner yet today, but it's the weekend and I promised myself that once a week at least, I'd brush up on my baking skills.
The thing is - what to make? Cookies, cake, muffins....What's your favorite sweet?

I'm more partial to bread, which I haven't yet learned to bake, even with a bread machine. What's the prob?

My grandad used to bake bread all of the time.
I just acquired a bread machine...again! Still haven't used it and I love fresh bread...Maybe, me thinks I'm afraid to use it because of what I'll eat! LOL

I'm late on this one but we had homemade chicken soup, homemade bread, and a blitz torte (also from scratch). The only thing I use the bread maker for now is to mix and knead the bread. I find that cooking it in the machine makes the bread rubbery due to condensation.

In the very near future I'll be baking a birthday cake (my mom turns 72) and it will be gluten free - which means I'm using coconut and almond flour. It's an amazing, and decadent treat

That sounds delish Deanna - where do you find your coconut and almond flour. I don't think they sell that over the street here at Stater Bros. lol

Jana, I find bread easy to make - and kneading the dough can be very therapeutic. A bread machine was purchased (NOT by me), but its purchaser didn't have much luck with it, and I was quite happy to do it by hand when I was at home.
What I can't do well is pastry. I've been known to manage something that was edible, but it sure seemed a different species to what Grandma used to make!

Mona I agree entirely with the pastry thing. My mother and nanas would whip it up and it would be all nice and flaky, but I just can't get it down - not like that. Some days are a hit and some are not!
After I came to the U.S. I had a hard time with my Yorkshire puddings because of the ratios, and ingredients being called different things. Do you know how unsettling it was for me when my Yorkshires were a flop and I grew up there! lol I finally got it though, and probably will with the pastry in time!

Allyson, they actually DO sell it at Staters! It's in the baking isle, but it's like in the "special" section. I buy the Bob's Red Mill brand - it's in a clear package/bag. Yup - right there in the baking isle.
