Think hubby's getting over his brief craziness and coming round again!
I think because I mentioned getting a hysterectomy it freaked him out (before) but more recently when I talked to him about me getting sterilised and how few side effects there are he seemed quite interested! and had no protests at all!
And last night when he saw about one minute of Super Nanny when channel surfing, and there was a kid kicking the door he told me "I hate kid! I hate it! I don't want a kid. If my kid did that I'd throw him out the window!" He was joking of course. He's said he'll throw our computer out the window if it breaks down again and yet he hasn't thrown ANYTHING out ANY window ever!
But I think if we had a kid he'd shout at it if it kept screaming and I'd probably try to run away from it!!!
Just kidding - sort of!
I told him last night - I KNOW you, just as you know ME well. You like quiet evenings (yes we DO talk and so on but you know we don't have lots of noise round us all the time) and you like to be able to watch football not have some kid begging you to turn on cartoon network. And you're very tidy and clean. And you worry about money too much, you'd only worry more. It just ISN'T YOU.
As for me, like I may have said, I like to feel I have control over my life and I also like to have a lot of down time. I like money and I like time! And so on and so on and so on!

I leave the child-rearing to people who feel called to it. I've never felt that call.

I'll have to keep that chat stored away in my brain for later! You made really good points, stuff that I can share with my husband! What about playing video games? My husband loves to play video games, though he doesn't play too often. What happens when the kid wants to play video games? Are they going to fight over it? And the dogs disturb our TV watching enough as it is. Wait til Junior has a tantrum while my husband is trying to watch Doctor Who.

Fully understood on all fronts -- except in our household, it is my wife who has the TV warmed up for the Tigers, the Lions, U of M football, the US Open. I have a preference for the Cartoon Network, Discovery Channel, Science Channel... things of that nature. That is why no kids will ever be in our house.

I'M the one who likes playing the video games! Or rather the free trials of PC download games e.g. Big Kahuna Reef, Diner Dash, Mahjong Quest 2 etc. Plus Sims.

I prefer Burnout. I like the road rage games. Or Prince of Persia. LOVE POP. I've beaten both Sands of Time and the one after it (I always want to call it Two Thrones, is that right) twice. What stinks is if you put it on the difficult level it's not really more difficult, you just have to hit the guys more. Not more fun.

The games I like to play are not the complicated games of today... they are the flash games that are on free game playing sites. ie if it uses more than a mouse and click, or up down left right and space bar, I don't play it. I like simple, after taxing my brain all day with highly technical stuff. Games like those done with the original Nintendo or Sega or Atari 2600 are typical of what I like.

I like Hexic and Zuma - computer games that require only a click and a spacebar!
