Check out the latest Spirituality Article:

Forgiveness

The question "How do I fogive someone" has been floating around these forums in different topics for several months now, so I thought I would do some research on it.

I found some amazing, inspirational quotes about forgiveness and thought I would expound on each thought.

I hope y'all enjoy this article and that it helps some of you that have been struggling with this issue.

Wonderfully written --- and so very true. Thank you for sharing with us. Many people love to hold their anger and sense of "unjustness" and I can't help but feel sorry for them, for they are hurting themselves, not the peerson they are upset with.

I know for me, personally, the one I struggle with the most (and have even posted about on here before) is forgiving someone when they haven't asked for forgiveness.

It is very hard to let go of that pain when the other person doesn't even seem to care, but that is what it is - pain. Carrying around pain is just...backwards. We should want to get rid of pain.

But it seems sometimes like an infected wound that has scabbed over. It hurts to touch it - so we ignore it. There is no way it is going to get better unless we lance the wound and let all the infection out - but that initial cut hurts sooooo much we are scared to do it, so we continue to ignore it - and the longer we let it go, the worse it gets.

We make up all these reasons in our heads as to why that person doesn't deserve our forgiveness - but honestly no man ever deserves to be forgiven - that is the definition of grace and mercy to give something that is not earned.

I'll never forget the look of shock on y ex-husband's face when, after he had absconded with our two kids for over 10 years - I gave hi a hug the day he brought them to see me and said, "I forgave you years ago. Thank you for bringing our kids back."

Honestly, the little witchin me was happy that I'd discomfitted him too LOL

Great analogy. Forgiveness doesn't usually come easily especially towards the ones who hurt us the most. However, it is definitely a necessary step before true healing occurs. I think forgiveness is one of the hardest lessons to learn in life as it deeply challenges our need for justice. Thanks for bring up this good topic.
