I was rude to someone else�s guest. I couldn�t help it. A grown man, who professes to be a follower of Jesus Christ, told a racist joke at a dinner gathering. He�s lucky I only expressed my heartfelt opinion of his �humor� instead of smacking his smug face.

Thank you for that. I, unfortunately, have experienced far too much of the same type of "closet" bigotry you write about. There is simply no room in the Christian faith - or any faith, for that matter - for these attitudes to be tolerated. I may be offensive when I express my anger and disdain when I am within earshot of these comments or failed attempts at humor, but I firmly believe that I am within my rights to express my outrage. After all, assuming that I would find these things amusing is a direct insult to me.

Silence is often taken for approval. No way do I want anyone to be unclear about where I stand on certain matters. (This may be why one of my husband's friends remarked that I was a "woman of strong opinions." I'm always struggling for a note of graciousness...)
