The arctic freeze is killing the many species of exotic pets that have been released in the south. The cold is especially hard on ectotherms they can't handle the cold. Frozen ectotherm insects and iguanas falling out of trees? Which means the many species of snakes and other former exotic pets are suffering too! The non-native exotic pet cast offs were never meant to be in Florida.

The cold is hurting a lot of these animals that have been dumped especially in florida. Think of all the snakes.

Just today I watched a report regarding the Iguanas falling out of trees but the reporter said that they would be fine once the weather warmed - is this not true?

And are snakes etc different with respect to the cold than the Iguanas?

Frankly depends on how cold they got, and did the fall cause external or internal injuries. Snakes are ectotherms just as iguanas are. Invertebrates, amphibians, and reptiles are all ectotherms. They may be a little less prone to fall out of a tree or depending on the type would even be in a tree, especially when it is freezing.

These animals that are poached out of the tropics, sold as pets, people get tired to the pets and dump them in the wild, are not use to the different climate or environment.

a terrible thing to do to any creature that you once cared for - and by this I mean provided food and shelter - people that dump animals when they no longer want them never really cared at all for that animal. This is the reason that well policed licenses may be a good thing for all animal keeping - from dogs, cats to horses and exotics. Requiring a person to go through a process to prove they are capable of caring for an animal would help eliminate some of those that get into this for the wrong reasons. A reasonable fee that is not too expensive nor too cheap would add another buffer.
