BellaOnline Forums TV and Movies Drama Movies Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in New Spielberg Film

Fans of "Spotlight" and "All the President's Men" can look forward to "The Post", Steven Spielberg's new film to be released around Christmas (just in time for Oscar consideration). Tom Hanks plays newspaper editor Ben Bradlee and Meryl Streep plays publisher Kay Graham, both of "The Washington Post". The film is set in 1971, when the "Post" was instrumental in publishing the explosive Pentagon Papers. Also in the film are Alison Brie, Sarah Paulson, and Bradley Whitford.

Update: The first trailer for "The Post" went online today. Looks like Meryl Streep's character is the main focus of the film, with Hanks playing a supporting role. The film will be in a small number of theaters on December 22nd to qualify for the Oscars, and go into wide release on January 12th. The Post Official Trailer

Today, the National Board of Review announced its annual awards. "The Post" was named Best Picture of 2017. In addition, Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks won Best Actress and Best Actor. Steven Spielberg, however, lost out on Best Director. That award went to Greta Gerwig for her directorial debut "Lady Bird".
