Robert Mitchum was born exactly 100 years ago today. Turner Classic Movies is featuring Mitchum all day to celebrate. Right now, Mitchum, Jane Russell, and Vincent Price are onscreen in "His Kind of Woman". Next up is the film noir "Angel Face" co-starring Jean Simmons.

"Film Comment" magazine is also honoring Mitchum on his one-hundred-year anniversary. The latest issue features an essay on Mitchum and two large black-and-white stills from "Macao" and "His Kind of Woman".

In 1948, screenwriter Lillie Hayward penned "Blood on the Moon" and created a strong female character for Barbara Bel Geddes to play opposite Robert Mitchum. You can read my review on the Drama Movies site. Blood on the Moon (1948) Film Review

"Do you go to school to be tall? Do you go to school to be blond? Stanislavski wrote a book about the Method and he admitted he did it for the money. And so now everybody follows him, and he laughs. Talent is like having an ear for pitch — you can't develop it." (1970

One of Robert Mitchum's classic quotes on being an actor - in honor of his birthday.

As a Memorial Day tribute, I just posted a review of "Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison". The 1957 film stars Robert Mitchum as a marine corporal who is stranded on an island in the South Pacific. An Irish nun, played by Deborah Kerr, is the only other inhabitant. In this love story set against the backdrop of World War II, Mitchum delivers one of his finest performances for director John Huston. Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison Film Review
