If "a fortune" is interpreted only in monetary terms, I can only say "So what?" We hope that school teaches formal skills and some basic information about the world. The self-education is what takes you beyond it and makes your life worth living. It doesn't have to be pots of money. Perhaps it's gardening, art, a sport, volunteering, theater or music - things maybe you can't do to a professional level, but are enriching to you and others.
