The New York Times has published an article accusing Harvey Weinstein of sexually harassing women for decades. Among the alleged victims are Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan. Weinstein, with his brother Bob, was the founder of Miramax and currently is the co-chairman of The Weinstein Company ("Wind River" is one of their recent releases). Weinstein has released a statement saying not all of the allegations are true, but apologizes for a pattern of behavior that is unacceptable. Previously, Weinstein has made out-of-court settlements with eight women. He says he is establishing a $5 million dollar fund for female directors. Is this enough to excuse his behavior or should he be forced to resign from his position at The Weinstein Company?

Update: It looks like this scandal will continue to grow. Several members of The Weinstein Company's board have resigned in light of the allegations against Harvey Weinstein. A news reporter has alleged she was harassed by Weinstein and two of his key legal advisors have resigned. Democratic politicians are also being pressured to return campaign donations received from Weinstein.

Update: Actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Lea Seydoux, and Cara Delevingne have all come forward with allegations of harassment by Weinstein. The board of The Weinstein Company released a statement saying they had no idea that Harvey Weinstein was engaged in such behavior. Pretty incredible, since it seemed like an open secret in Hollywood. Weinstein, meanwhile, has lost all credibility. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science is holding a special meeting on Saturday to decide if it will take any action censoring Weinstein. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has already suspended Weinstein's membership.

Today, Harvey Weinstein issued a statement saying he made "mistakes". But as in your post, it should be called what it is - abuse. Also, actress Kate Beckinsale revealed Weinstein made sexual overtures to her when she was 17. There is no reason why working in the film business should give these men carte blanche to break the law.
