Hiya Everyone,

Richard Branson said something like “You don’t learn to walk when you can’t read the rules; you learn by doing and falling over.” Good words to keep in mind when getting frustrated with the black thumb you seem to have inherited!

Mistakes are easy to make with containers for as many reasons as there are container gardeners. In a three part string of articles on ‘Killing your Plants’ we cover a combination of errors that are most responsible for our plants not performing optimally. Read on to refresh your approach to container gardening … hopefully there will be a plant that will thank you!

Part one: Wrong Plant choices; Container choice; Placement and Position; Overwatering; Under watering; Soil and Maintenance.

Killing your Plants Part One

Part Two: Drainage; Light; Low Humidity; Care Instructions; Shock/Change/Moving; Pests and Diseases.

Killing your Plants Part Two

Part Three: Temperature; Roots; Fertilisers; Neglect and General.

Killing your Plants Part Three

If you have other subjects to tackle in this line, please let us know … Part Four may be necessary.

Here’s to great gardening!

Lestie, as usual, you inspire me. I have a philodendron plant that I got when my mother passed away in 1996. It was her little baby. She loved that plant, since I had bought it for her 20 years before. That poor plant has been sorely neglected for the past few years.

This weekend, it is going to get a new pot and soil, then back in the macrame hanger to live by the back door, away from our cats!
