The Screen Actors Guild is giving Morgan Freeman a Life Achievement Award on Jan. 21st, 2018, the date of its 24th annual awards ceremony. The honor is for Freeman's accomplishments both on and off the screen. In addition to his nearly one hundred appearances in movies such as "Unforgiven" and "The Shawshank Redemption", Freeman supports the Campaign for Female Education and the work of African-American playwrights through the Frank Silvera Writers' Workshop.

Just days before Harvey Weinstein turned himself in to police and was arraigned on rape charges, 8 women have accused Morgan Freeman of sexual misconduct. As a result, the Screen Actors Guild is considering what it calls "corrective actions" against Freeman. SAG did not say if this would include rescinding his lifetime achievement award.
