Missed Svetlana Savitskaya completely Mona, can't imagine what I was up to at the time...oh yes I can smile

Had to look her up, the shame, what an interesting woman and she has led quite an eventful life after her space walk too, didn't just fade into the sunset quietly. Thanks for the nudge!

I can't disagree, Francine, Savitskaya is another incredible woman. But, of course, men have to be the Right Stuff to be astronauts and women have to be even moreso, especially in the early days. Think also about Sally Ride.

The program was a partnership of universities in several countries directed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Its purpose was to look for environments suitable for microbial life on Mars.
