Consider the phrase 'thinking outside the box' as a challenge to do the same with sewing. The catchy expression is often associated with innovation, seeking original solutions, or going beyond the status quo.

Ha, ha, I recently tried some new sewing alteration. I had a pair of baggy jeans that I love to wear gardening but after losing 30 lbs they were much too loose - so I took off the front of the waist band, cut out a 2 inch long section of the front of the pants which included a third of the zipper length, then pleated the pants to fit the waistband. You can't even tell what I did and I saved my pants from the thrift store bag. smile

Wow, that was a significant amount of alteration. Great idea. I love to recycle or upcycle clothing back to functional everyday wear. Recently I took several fold over turtleneck sweaters, cut the collars down one side and stitched a few buttons to anchor the now freed collar edges for a new asymmetrical look. Of course now the weather is turning warmer so I wont get to wear them til next year!

Cheryl, that sounds like a very nice alteration on turtlenecks - I know they can be itchy up around the neck. And I am enjoying my "new" jeans. Recently I cut back a 3/4 length sleeve to above the elbow, and it is now easier to move around in. smile
