Director Jonathan Demme passed away this morning at his home in New York City. He was suffering from cancer of the esophagus. Demme's last feature film was "Ricki and the Flash" with Meryl Streep. He is best known for the Oscar-winning film "Silence of the Lambs" and the Talking Heads documentary "Stop Making Sense". Jodie Foster released a statement saying, in part, "I am heart-broken to lose a friend, a mentor, a guy so singular and dynamic you’d have to design a hurricane to contain him. Jonathan was as quirky as his comedies and as deep as his dramas. He was pure energy, the unstoppable cheerleader for anyone creative."
