It's Spring Break in my area of Kansas, and our weather is anything but springlike. We had snow yesterday and freezing rain today. Our flowers do not like it one bit. Last week temps were in the 60s to 80! I am doing some reading, since yard work is out of the question. Do you know that finding natural places to read helps kids develop a sense of community and gives them a purpose for reading?

Another natural way to practice reading is to read a recipe book as you cook. Kids love to cook! There is a lot of reading in finding a recipe. Then, you need to read the recipe and method carefully to cook successfully.

What have you read lately? Life is full of reading...recipes, labels, directions to an event, instructions for planting seeds and plants, and directions for building a hummingbird feeder! It all takes reading to do it well!

When the weather is nice, a park is a wonderful place to read. So is a patio or deck.

Take a lovely walk, then when you get tired of walking, or come to a special place where you want to rest a while, sit down with your book. Read, rest, enjoy!

Go to the park, sit by a lake or pond, find a quiet place under a shade tree, enjoy your natural place to read.
