The official trailers were released today for two new films: "Silence", directed by Martin Scorsese and "The Last Face", directed by Sean Penn. Scorsese's film takes place in 17th century Japan, and Penn's film is set in African conflict zones. "The Last Face" received poor reviews at the Cannes film festival and hasn't got a US release date yet. "Silence" is getting a limited release on December 23rd so it can be eligible for the 2017 Academy Awards. Judging from the trailers, "Silence" looks to be the superior film.

Update: The Vatican announced today that "Silence" director Martin Scorsese will have a private meeting with Pope Francis tomorrow. They will discuss the film and the mission of the Jesuit order, of which Pope Francis is a member. "Silence" is having its world premiere screening at the Vatican on Thursday.
