Today is September 11, 2016. Fifteen years ago, to my horror, I was watching New York burning, via satellite relay on a TV at the school where I was teaching in London. When I was myself a student in California, it was a fairly optimistic time. If someone had told me that this was what the first year of the new millennium would bring, I wouldn't have believed it.
Here is a picture of
a cable shield, with American flag, on NASA's Mars rover Spirit, now silent. But her twin Opportunity also has one on the rock abrasion tool. Both were being made by Honeybee Robotics in lower Manhattan on 9/11/2001. Honeybee made the cable shields from 2 pieces of aluminum from the debris at Ground Zero.
