Reading with expression can bring words to life. It doesn't matter if you are reading silently to yourself, or reading aloud. You can learn and use this practice, as well as share it with new readers. Reading With Expression

I do not have the gift of imitation when it comes to voices. It's usually my voice with a high lilt, or a low chortle kind of noise. Do any of you have the ability to imitate or create different voices when you read aloud?

I read aloud to our two rescue dogs. It started as a way to calm them down, and it has stuck.
Today we read - Martin de Porres (the Rose in the Desert). It was written by Gary D. Schmidt and illustrated by David Diaz.
What have you read aloud this week?

When I read my kids the first Harry Potter book when they were little, I really surprised myself by being able to read the different parts, and even manage a couple of different accents. It was fun!

How cool, Deanna! My British Accents always seem to have country type of twang!

Reading to my children really freed me to read with expression. When they were small, they were uncritical listeners. I wanted them to love reading, so I threw myself into it. I did different voices for various characters. As Michelle said, I smiled, frowned, and allowed myself to feel the different emotions. My children changed the way that I read, and I will be forever grateful to them.

Use expressive reading with babies, too! They really appreciate different facial expressions and tones of voice. Babies Love Reading
