Well done, Angie. In our Local Group of galaxies, we have close small galaxies. Two of them are well known to people looking at the southern sky - the Larger and Smaller Magellanic Clouds are two satellite galaxies of our Milky Way. They are visible to the unaided eye and do - as their names proclaim - look like clouds.
Andromeda is - in clear dark skies - also visible to the unaided eye. But you have to know where to look and then you'd see a small fuzzy patch. It's the most distant object that we can see without optical aids. In fact, I'm feeling so enthused about it, I think I'll write about it. (Maybe not right this minute however.)
