During the last couple of days I have picked up several ebooks to read/review in the mystery/suspense category. That got me wondering how many of you might purchase an ebook to read rather than buying print books.

What is your preference as to ebook vs hard/soft cover?

Do you think ebooks are the wave of the future?

Do you read ebooks as a form of "going green" to save trees and other resources?

Inquiring minds would like to know. cool Looking forward to your responses.

Hi Edie,

Even though I don't yet own a dedicated ebook reader like a Kindle or a Nook, I have almost completely switched over to ebooks myself. I was simply running out of room on my shelves and in my house. It helps of course that I have a small, lightweight laptop to read on, but lots of people read on their phones now or own tablet PC's that can be used as well.

I really do think ebooks are the wave of the future. You can carry dozens or hundreds or even thousands around with you for the weight of one paper book, and they're a lot easier on the eyes with their adjustable font sizes. I also like being able to quickly search for information without running all over my house to find that one book I put somewhere... smile

I'm very old-fashioned and need a book to hold in my hands. I used to write reviews for a site that had a lot of ebooks, and just couldn't get into it. Right now I have three ebooks to review and I have been procrastinating a little.

Haven't yet tried Kindle, but not sure I really want to. Guess I should catch up with the times.

Well, a lot of people feel that way about books, but on the other hand, the eInk of the Kindle and some other readers is as easy on the eyes as paper and can be read in direct sunlight, etc. Another thing about ereaders that a lot of people don't realize is that the font can be adjusted (without scrolling) to a size that is more comfortable for -ahem- older eyes, and actually holding the unit is a lot easier than holding a big thick book open, especially if you have arthritis in your hands, or are lying down, or want to eat, drink, or exercise while you read.

The biggest complaint I hear about them, however, is the inability or limited ability to share favorite books with friends and family members. The publishers and ereader manufacturers need to give this more consideration.

I will never read books that are not made of papers. I love technology but it has limits (for me anyway) and often or sometimes it is better to go with the classic way.
