On February 15, 2013 an asteroid 2012 DA14 was expected to make a close pass by Earth. Close in astronomical terms isn't close enough to panic about, and indeed it did pass by as expected. A restaurant in Boston, Massachusetts decided cocktails were called for - and were serving one they named "2012 DA14".

Here's the recipe:

Quote:
2 ounces Grey Goose cherry noir
1 ounce lemon juice
1 ounce simple syrup
Soda, to top
Ice

Directions:
Combine all ingredients, and serve with a jaw-breaker on top

Doesn't sound all that great to me, but even without any vodka in it, it might have appealed to some Russians. Because although 2012 DA14 bypassed Earth, another asteroid - previously unknown! - exploded over Chelyabinsk that day.
