Hi Everyone:

I've noticed more and more woman my age (40ish - give or take), all moms, wearing halters, camis and short shirts that expose half a belly. Am I being old-fashioned to think that this is not appropriate? I know my kids would run and hide if I dressed that way.

As long as the setting is appropriate and the woman has a belly that's in good shape, I think it's just fine. But even a sixteen year old girl looks horrible in a short shirt if she has a roll of fat hanging out.

Mother always said that even when things seem bad there's someone else who's having a worse day. Like being stung by a bee or getting a splinter or being chained to the wall in someone's sex dungeon.

I think when we get a certain age some fashions are way past us and minis and boots is definitely one of them. Halters show too much of our aging arms. There is the old saying Mutton done up as Lamb.

Thanks for the reality check! We were at the Bon Jovi concert the other night and what some women were wearing was really, really, really out there.

I agree. Sometimes I see women about "our" age dressing like teens or twentysomethings and I almost laugh. Our bodies change as we age, even if we have taken excellent care of ourselves, gravity happens! Whenever I see these women dressing like that I can't help but wonder how much all the plastic surgery cost, to get rid of spider veins, cellulite removal, wrinkle lifts and removal and tummy tucks, etc. I know girls that have had these things done just to look good, young, or better, but their eyes still look their age, IF you get up close enough.

My kids (and grandkids) would laugh their tails off (and get stitches in their sides) if I tried to dress like some of their friends.

If you have the body and you are not in a place with a dress code that prohibits these shirts then there's no problem with it.

I feel like sexiness is a choice at an age. Yes, there is inappropriate dress, where you are half naked with skin bulging out. Aside from this, a woman should be able to feel and look her best. Age is a state of mind. If you feel "old", you will carry yourself that way. Why can't we be sexy at 40? Why can't 40 be as exuberant as 20 was? Does it mean, that females have to look juvenile? Of course not. Let's be fierce in our own maturity!

Also, having a great body does not always indicate plastic surgery. There are many people who work out and eat clean (and not just celebrities, lol).

Let's be comfortable in our own skin.

I think it's all up to the person. If they can make it look good and not trashy then go for it! If it looks trashy, sloppy, etc then maybe it's time to be a bit more modest.
