Today is the 266th anniversary of the birth of Caroline Herschel, the first woman to be credited with the discovery of a comet, and considered the first professional female astronomer because she received a salary from the King of England for her astronomy work.

A delightful Google doodle celebrates Caroline's birth day, though I should note that she discovered comets, not meteors!
