What causes you to buy a particular shampoo?

i usually switch around every time i need more shampoo. last one i bought is john freida's shampoo and conditioner for brunette's... it smells GREAT and leaves your hair really soft and smooth.

I buy shampoo based on what it does, BUT it has to smell good, too. I use clarifying shapoos exclusively now to get out all the product.

When it comes to other products, I admit to being drawn by presentation, then smell, and then what it does. Still, a pretty bottle and great smelling product isn't enough for me if it doesn't do the job.

For example, I bought Bed Head's Uptight. It's a heat activated curl maker. I was going straight for awhile, but decided I missed my curl. Because I didn't really need it and it didn't seem to do anything, I returned it. However, the bottle is funky, and the smell is heavenly.

So, it's really all about a product doing the job I want it to...but it must smell good in the process.

I choose "description on back of bottle" but not only that. My hair is very dry and my hairdresser told me not to use shampoos that have alot of alcohol in them because they dry out hair. Swimming used to dry out my hair but I haven't gone swimming in over a year so then my hairstylist asked me what kind of shampoo i used and i said Pantene Pro-V and she said not to use that because of the alcohol amount in it, and that's why dries out my hair so much.

I was not aware that shampoo contained alcohol.
I know that the ones I have checked don't have any, whether store or professional quality.

If you see Cetyl Alcohol in some, it is an
emollient and controls viscosity. It isn't the alcohol that we generally think of.

The alcohol that is in hairspray and certain styling products is only there to get the product out of the bottle and them evaporate.

I need to use an anti-dandruffs shampoo six days out of seven so for that shampoo I go with what works (sometimes i make exceptions and try 1 i never used before which is hard since ive been doing that for many years and tried almost all the brands and scents available) and for the other I go by the scents if it is a two in one and if it is a shampoo and conditioner it has to match.

I like shampoos that make hair look full and clean and not weighed down. The ones that create volume. I like a light scent, not perfumy.
