This is a photo taken by Hubble. Scientists cannot begin to figure out what it is. I like to think of it as the gate of heaven. The mystery photo. Not really so mysterious. The image started life as a picture of
the Swan Nebula (Messier 17). It wasn't taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, but by the European Southern Observatory's VLT Survey Telescope on Cerro Paranal in Chile.
Adam Ferriss has done some very cool digital manipulation to produce the stunning effect in the “mystery photoâ€. He also clearly labelled it as the Swan Nebula. (
