Good article! I'm old, so my school supplies were always supplied by the school (!!) and my mother made our clothes from the brightly printed cotton sacks that rabbit pellets came in. (Dad raised rabbits for the hospitals to use for pregnancy tests, at 3000+/-, that provided a LOT of fabric!) Brother and I did have lunch boxes, with a thermos, and wax paper wrapped the sandwich and carrot or other veggie sticks. Add an orange, banana or apple and that was lunch. Mom did not send us out with glass containers (and we broke the thermos glass regularly, too) because glass just wasn't safe in our hands, LOL. My husband, on the other hand, walked home to lunch every day in elementary school, which was two houses down the street. Lunch time was an hour back in the 40s and 50s....
