I think it's time to abandon the thread "Lights will return to the far north soon". The aurorae have been spotted and have been photographed for the past month.
And I should note that it isn't just in the north, but also in the far south where aurorae may be seen. They're not as frequent because inhabited areas of the southern hemisphere are farther away from the southern auroral oval. And of course their longer nights are shortening now, as ours are growing longer.
