I believe that to be true - especially if you "Throw Caution to the Wind". That means that you have the feeling that it "doesn't matter what you eat" - or have the attitude "it's a holiday - I only make this (insert name of special dish) once a year".
It is easy to rationalize that you have to try everything at the buffet. HOWEVER...
My trick is that I try to think of one dessert item that might be served at an event and tell myself - "if there is a lemon bar" I can have one....but if there is not a lemon bar, then I totally skip the dessert table.
