I need to embroidery a "picture" to represent our Sunday School Misistry. I would like to do a sampler style. I was thinking of using a Bible verse instead of the ABC's and maybe a church picture and a couple of other pictures, a pretty border etc. I want to do a variety of stitches. My question is what type of material should I use and once I have desingned it on paper, how do I transfere it to the fabric. I used to use carbon paper for tranfereing but what do I use these days?

You probably already made your sampler by now - since your question was not recent. I like to use small graph paper to lay our the design and decide on stitches. Use a scripture is a wonderful idea and you would want to decide on a specific font - use your computer for that - decide if you will use back stitch or stem stitch for the lettering- with possibly some satin stitching on the capital letters. Cut around the wording and lay that on your paper backing. Then decide on what artwork you want around the scripture. Draw or copy those designs. When you have it like you want it - use tracing paper to transfer your design with pencil. THEN turn the tracing paper over and copy your design (you will be able to see it easily through the tracing paper) with an embroidery transfer pencil. Then it will be ready to iron on to your fabric - and the words will not be reversed. Good luck!
