The Big Dipper is something most people can recognize. BTW neither of the dippers are constellations – they're parts of Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, so are asterisms (patterns of stars that aren't official constellations). And Cygnus is a good one too, as its main stars are fairly bright and can be seen even in the city on a clear night. It also contains an asterism, known as the
Northern Cross.
