I noticed that your link hasn't shown up properly, so I've put here to make it easier for would-be readers.

Sustainable Sewing

Interesting article. Though I have to admit that I do almost no sewing. All I've done in the last few decades is some patchwork - I completed a quilt once, and I have four unfinished ones, languishing in various places. I like the idea of the creativity of sewing - my mother was superb - more than actually doing it.

Thank you for the assist. It seems that generations of women before us took the skill of sewing in stride, an expectation that they would learn and know how to sew. All women, in all economic strata, sewed to some extent and taught sewing and embroidery to young girls within their family circles. Having completed a quilt once is to me quite remarkable! I too have "UFO's" (unfinished objects)that seem to call out for completion. My mother was an amazing self-taught sewer. Perhaps a forum discussion of how our mothers, sisters, aunts, and caregivers learned to sew and how sewing as a skill or hobby has been passed down to us through the generations would be interesting indeed.
