This small museum is far more powerful than museums ten times its size. Situated in the campus building closest to the shootings, it tells the story of May 4, the events leading up to it, and the impact felt afterwards.

Today marks the 45th anniversary of the shootings at Kent State. Do you remember that day? If not, what does it mean to you anyway?

Kent State has been on my mind lately. I've been thinking about all the violence during my lifetime: Watts, Vietnam and Kent State, JFK, MLK, the Olympics, the Mid East, etc. We just cannot seem to get our world in order.

James Michener wrote a very interesting book on the Kent State shootings. I was too young at the time to be aware of what was happening, but once knowledgeable, I look at the world differently. In the wake of Ferguson, Baltimore, and other similar incidents, I think a worldwide discussion of power and its abuses are in order. One of my ex-students is now a policeman in Lynwood, California. It's not a particularly safe job, and I wonder what kind of training he's been given to deal with dangerous situations without resorting to violence.

Maybe BOL should add a channel called "Peace Studies". Regular articles on the subject would be welcome. I know there's a bit of a focus in the meditation channel, but shouldn't this be spoken of at least as much as we speak of the Kardashians?
