On 22nd May, Irish citizens who have registered to vote will go to the polls to give their opinion on two amendments to the Irish constitution. If the majority say 'Yes' or 'Tá' in the voting booth, then Ireland will be the first country to allow gay marriage by popular vote rather than by change in legislation.
But this referendum is probably highlighting more issues than just marriage equality.
