What do you say when someone wants you to do a reading for them, but they actually want the reading about someone they are curious about - they want to know what's going on in their head, if they like them, are cheating on them, etc.

When I used to offer an inexpensive one card reading on my website, I think the most common questions I got where:

Does 'so and so' love me?
Is my partner cheating on me?

To me, it just feels weird and wrong to read someone else, without their permission. Ya, I used to do it when I started reading (and was young, and curious -- nosy --) about others. But those readings always came out wonky!

Friday I had a client who wanted to know about this guy she's dating. He's not wanting to commit, so her question was "will we ever get married?"

I shifted the question to "what actions would --client-- need to take to increase the probability she will marry ---this guy---?"

What came through was so fabulous! It ended up guiding her to be more authentic. She was so pleased.

I had been worried, because I thought she was the kind of person who just wanted the answers she wanted, and if the reading was different than what she wanted, she'd be unhappy with the reading.

I would love to hear what others say to guide their clients back toward themselves as the focus of the reading, because I am always looking for new ideas

I know what you mean Deanna. And, you are totally right. I feel that ethically and morally we shouldn't be interfering with the due process of someone's life. We can't really know the future. We can only offer probabilities based upon the current circumstances.

You were totally right on to move the reading back to the client's actions and probable outcomes. This places the decision making and actions taken back on the client where it belongs.

When I worked as a phone psychic, someone called me and said "I need to know if I'll find a job by next week."

Sadly, the cards didn't really reveal that, and I shared that. She said "I need a reading that says I'm getting a job," and then she hung up on me.

About 20 minutes later she called again, and not knowing she'd already talked to me, asked me the same question again.

Instead of paying $4.00 a minute to keep calling psychic after psychic for the answer she wanted, she would have done better to listen the first time, and maybe that would have helped her chances.

Oh well. That's one of the reasons I'm not crazy about calling myself a psychic. I'd rather say I'm a probability coordinator HA HA HA!!!
