I almost always stay at the cheapo Motel6 sites unless I'm in Vegas for a conference. But I must say, I like the hotels downtown in Glitter Gulch such as the Mint and the Golden Nugget.

What was the cost per night for The Mandarin Oriental? How did it compare to other hotels in the same area?

We paid around $220/night at the Mandarin. I hesitate to compare it to other places around since I've only stayed in a handful of hotels on the strip. My sister recently stayed at the Aria (right next door for $200/night) and Paris for about $120/night. Neither of these places have a similar calming escape feel to them as they have casinos inside. The Wynn is another comparison I am familiar with (due to its smoke-free environment, modern vibe/decor, and amazing spa). The prices there are comparable.
