I especially like the part about giving your daughter the chance to make mistakes. If kids never learn to make those little mistakes and cope with the aftermath, how can they learn to deal with the larger mistakes that life can bring? Sometimes, out of a sense of love and caring, we try to shelter kids from making mistakes. In the long-run, this is counter-productive.

Yes Connie. That is so true. I have the idea that I discuss the options and possible outcomes, but allow them to make a decision. Sometimes they make good decisions with good outcomes. Sometimes they make bad decisions with bad outcomes. Sometimes they make bad decisions with good outcomes (I hate those - defeats my lesson).

And still, I question if I am sheltering them from important lessons in life. As they get older I work to let go a bit more (the oldest is 13).
