Why most people go by brand names and not generic names for skin care products?
They can save lot of money.

It really depends on the product...not all generic brands are created equal. The most important thing to look at is the ingredient list and compare.

I would like more people to know about the generics.
Not many know that proactive is plain Benzoyl Peroxide.
How to educate them?
any ideas?

I think a way to get people to know is by posting as you are doing.

I looked into proactive and their active ingredient benzoyl peroxide 2.5%. It is also found in products such as oxy and zapzyt. However with benzoyl peroxide it makes skin more sensitive to the sun and you should be careful when using it.

I think that i will also do some articles comapring high cost products with their low cost alternatives.

Yes.

My idea is simple.

Let more people know about active ingrdients.
Then they can look for a cheap product containing that.
Let them not get swayed by brands and ads.

cdmohatta, no problem I agree with you completly! I feel that its similar to the OTC medication. Most stores have a store brand that if you look contain the exact ingredients at a 1/4 of the price.

As I said I'll look into doing a few articles on that!

I used to think generic names were just cheap products but finally a few years ago I gave something a try and I was pleasantly surprised. My favorite body lotion is the name brand of a drugstore. And also my favorite microwave dinners are also from the name brand of the store.
