Ambition: a 6-minute film telling the Rosetta story as a sci fi movie. Great visuals and a good sense of why and how we seek knowledge. Very enjoyable. And, of course, the next installment of Rosetta's story happens live on November 12th when it's time for the Philae lander to go meet the comet. Ambition

If you've been watching Game of Thrones, you'll recognize Irish actor Aiden Gillen as the Master in this little movie Ambition. I've already mentioned the fantastic visuals, but I have to put in a good word for Gillen's lovely soft Irish accent too!

It's happening on on Wednesday the 12th of November. Rosetta's lander Philae is to be launched towards the landing site Agilkia on the comet! The name of the landing site was chosen in a public competition. Agilkia is an island in the Nile River. Before Philae Island was flooded to build the Aswan dams, a complex of Ancient Egyptian buildings was moved from there to Agilkia. If you haven't seen "Landing on a Comet", this short video tells about the plans for Rosetta's lander Philae.

The European Space Agency (ESA) will be webcasting live from 19.00 GMT today November 11. (That's 20.00 CET and 2.00 p.m. EST.) On 12 November, Rosetta’s Philae probe is set to make the first-ever landing on a comet when it touches down on Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko. Separation of the lander is planned for about 09:03 GMT (10:03 CET), and touch down should follow about seven hours later.

Philae has landed. It may have landed twice, the data are unclear. There is some concern that the lander isn't properly anchored, but maybe it's ok. A great triumph, but it would be nice to be sure that all is well.
