As it's getting dark, the southwestern sky has two bright "stars" in it. They're actually not stars, but the planets Mars and Saturn. You should be able to see a reddish tinge to Mars.
Tonight there's a special treat - the crescent Moon will also be nearby and when it gets dark enough, you should also be able to pick out Spica making up a foursome! (Spica is the constellation Virgo's brightest star.)
The conjunction (apparent closeness in the sky) of Mars and Saturn will persist through much of September, but the Moon will go its own way.
