Let the wild orchids grow freely in wild (only).

Orchid growers please do not bring back these orchids. You will be harming the environment as well as almost certainly end up killing the plant too.

I also grew up in a conservationist mindset, but when I had to collect specimens (in this case, small reptiles and amphibians) I didn't feel bad about preserving them in a jar of formaldehyde. Now I would take a picture! I think we all become more appreciative of life as we get older. I even have a few "pet spiders" in corners that only I know about. (I'm not telling my daughter in law about them).

Ha ha, I am with you on that smile But seriously, life does teach a lot of lessons as we grow. Our perspective changes, so does our actions on lot of things.

And then, we repent.......

I have been teaching my kids things that I were hardly ever practiced myself.

P.S. Then you have no aversion to living in tropics! I don't mind snakes, but spiders eek

Well, I do draw the line at tarantulas and such. When I was a child in the Philippine, the geckos and the praying mantises had nightly fights over my bed. That's when I started collecting critters. My mother was very patient with my roomful of aquariums, even when snakes escaped. But now I probably have more plants!

I thought tarantulas occur in Brazilian forests only. We do not have poisonous spiders in India (luckily!). Insects give me creeps too. Recently, newspapers carried an article advising about including insects in diet due to their high protein content sick

I would take plants any time!
