Greetings! I just posted an article about Penelope, a fantasy romance starring Christina Ricci. I had seen this movie listed before, but never thought it sounded particularly interesting. Then my daughter encouraged me to watch, saying it was one of her "feel good" movies, and I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Have you ever watched a movie that you didn't really want to see, but mostly went along with it because someone you cared about encouraged you - only to find that you really loved it? I admit that I have a few of those. Fight Club is another that comes to mind. What movies have surprised you?

The Stage Door. I was at my mom's house one weekend and she kept saying I needed to see this movie with the young Lucille Ball. I really didn't want to see it, but watched it with my mom, sister, daughter, dad. It turned out to be a really good movie!

For me, it was Boys in the Hood.
For my husband, it was Gone with the Wind.

I don't think I've ever watched all of Boys in the Hood. I do, however, love Gone with the Wind - surprisingly so...LOL...

I liked Boys in the Hood very much. I need to try Gone With the Wind again at some point - and write a review on it. The only time I ever watched it was many years ago when I was 22. I had read the book only a few years earlier and the movie was...well...just so different. lol I was very unhappy with it. Maybe I'll like it better next time - it's been a long time since I read the book last. I'd like to watch it again, but I'll wait until after I watch the movie this time. lol

Another one for me was The Right Stuff. I got it on DVD awhile back. Thought it might be dry, historical, and boring, but it was great -- very involving, very funny.

I really need to see that one. I've wanted to. I put it on my Netflix list, thanks to your recommendation. Of course, with over 300 movies on my queue, it may still take me a while. lol

OMGs, 300? Well, it's worth it. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

I found that to be really awesome visually. It wasn't really my "thing" otherwise. I don't like a lot of violence, generally. Which is why I wouldn't see Fight Club for a long time - and I love it for many reasons now, despite the violence. But I do know that 300 really made an impact and I know many people who just loved it.

Ooops, sorry, Mystic, I was referring to your queue when I said "300." I meant The Right Stuff was one of the best movies I've ever seen. I think I had a similar reaction to yours with 300 -- great visual style (and nice beefcake ), but a bit on the violent side. I know what you mean about wanting to avoid violent movies!

lol Ohhh...okay...I'm sorry I misunderstood. Yeah, that violence thing...it's funny with me. I don't particularly avoid it, necessarily. I mean, I love action movies and some of those are quite violent. One of my very favorite action moves is Demolition Man and Wesley Snipes' character "Simon Phoenix" is quite gleeful about the violence he commits and I get a real kick out of it. lol But, I don't take the violence in those seriously, most of the time, anyway. I guess it comes down to whether or not it "hurts my heart". I just found the whole Spartan way of life to be so embracing of that violence - I would never have fit in there. They would have tossed me out with the garbage.
