I had an experience yesterday of observing a lady being at the effect of other peoples judgment.
She was at the checkout - first off she returned a pair of shoes that she bought that had two left feet. The casher had endless problems trying to arrange the refund. Next she put through the items she wanted to buy, and once they had been scanned she decided that she didn't want some of the items and asked for them to be returned.
The queue got edgy and some people moved to another checkout while tutting and staring at her in disgust. The cashier seemed to be of a happy disposition and didn't let the event phase him.
I wondered at the reasons behind the judgements, perhaps; the people didn't like being made to wait, they were intolerant of others changing their mind, or perhaps it was just a conditioned reaction. Either way, everyone in the queue ended up feeling affected by the experience. All because someone was blamed and judged for changing their mind.
