Hi Sandra, Interesting article.
In the UK most people aspire to own their hone. I have owned and rented and had experiences for and against both. One property bought was found to be built on a site that used to be an old tip and there was methane gas present on the land making it hazardous. The price of the property plummeted and we got no help from anyone to help fight our case. It took years for the prices to rise again and to be able to sell at a profit.
The other properties I owned did not have the same problems and I made a lot of money on each that allowed me to increase the value of my next property. However, after my marriage fell apart I had to give up my career and be more available to my children and was not in a position to buy again.
I have rented ever since and each time I have been put in the position of having to move as the landlord has put the house on the market. This is happening yet again and I am now getting ready to move again. I am considering buying somewhere this time to avoid being put in this situation again.
