I was just thinking about Ro's great comment about The Fast and the Furious and it raised a question for me...
If you knew there were other movies that came first (a series), do you HAVE to watch from the beginning or are you OK with jumping in with the latest movie? For example, are you OK with watching Fast and the Furious 7, if you haven't seen 1-6?

Mostly I'm like Rosie and I want to see them in sequence. But some are just basic repeats of the same story arc like the Rocky movies, the Hellraiser movies, the Aliens (Sigourney Weaver) movies, and the Terminator movies, and I can just watch any of them in any order. They're mini-versions of the same re-telling.

I absolutely understand. :-)
It all depends, for me, if it's out in the movie theater now and I don't have time to watch the entire series, I'll watch the current movie and then go back and watch all of them leading up to that point as a movie night but sometimes you miss a lot of the character build up when you don't start from the beginning.

I'll jump in if we are only at the second or third of the series and catch up later.
If it is really deep I will even go back & read the books that got it all started.

Good point, Yvonnie, and that raises a great question in my mind...How well does that work? I know sometimes people think that the books are so far from the movie that they get confused...sometimes I don't mind because I like to see where directors take the "liberties." For example, I know it's not a series, but I read Towering Inferno and it's really different from the movie, but I actually liked both as stand alones.
It's almost like people who love The Walking Dead comics, and hate the TV show...LOL...

I think it depends on the series. Some you can jump into any where and others are better understood and appreciated watched in order. Mostly, if I missed the first movies, I will watch the newest one and then go back and watch the first ones.
With book to movie series I try to look at them as two separate entities. A book and its movie each have their strengths and weaknesses.

So true. It is possible to like a movie and like the book, if I don't compare them (which many do), I'm usually OK.
