One of the world's leading planetariums, located in one of the world's premier museums in one of the world's great cities. It's the Hayden Planetarium in New York City. The old Hayden Planetarium was razed in 1997, to many people's sorrow. But the new one opened in 2000 and it is stunning.

The Willamette meteorite isn't displayed in the Hall of Meteorites of the American Natural History Museum. It's part of the Solar System exhibit in the Rose Center. It's an interesting and important item in itself. But it's also a small asteroid that's come to Earth, so has a place in the planetarium. The picture shows two people with the meteorite to let you see how big it is.

Here is a portrait of Neil deGrasse Tyson, Director of the planetarium.

A native New Yorker, Tyson first visited the Hayden Planetarium when he was nine years old. “I was never the same after that,” he says. “The lights go off and the stars come out—I had never seen that in my life. I grew up in the city, and you look up and there’s a tall building, and air pollution, and light pollution. You don’t have a relationship with the night sky. You don’t even know it’s there.”
