Has Voyager 1 finally left the Solar System? No, that won't happen for tens of thousands of years. But it has left the bubble that the solar wind makes in space. The spacecraft is in the space between the stars, moving through a plasma made from ancient supernova explosions.

There is an animation of the important signal that showed that Voyager had entered a different environment. You can hear the radio signal, which is in our audio range. The animation shows the intensity of the signal, with red the most intense. The frequency is related to the number of electrons. You can see and hear this increase.

I have just come across an excellent graphic on Voyager 1. They've summarized its career in an attractive poster. My only quibble is that it's titled "Exiting the Solar System". I suppose it is the process of exiting the Solar System, but it'll take another thirty thousand years or so to accomplish that!
