Of all of the possible coping skills, self-talk is the most versatile. It's helpful in almost any high-pressure or difficult situation. It's simple to learn and use. And since it's your own internal voice inside your own head, it goes everywhere you go so it's always available.

Hello fellow newbie!

I have learned to accept I can be my best friend or my worst enemy. It was an important lesson and I still work to maintain a positive perspective of myself. Inner joy is truly worth any effort to maintain the "color" of my life glasses.

I also try to laugh - a lot.

I do a lot of self talk lately. It really helps me to stay sane and to maintain proper perspective.

Debbie, from all of your posts, I think that you would find my book helpful. It's called "Running on Empty: Overcome Your Childhood Emotional Neglect." Have you read it yet? It addresses the things you have been talking about here. Just a suggestion because I think it really applies to you. All my best wishes for all of the good work you are doing for yourself.
